ETCHINGS AND LINOCUTS

Etching is an old printmaking process which is still widely used nowadays.

It consists in engraving a design in a metal plate and exposing it to acid, which bites into it.  Aquatint can then be added to create tones and colours.

You then make a limited edition, deciding how many prints will be produced and number each print, i.e. 1/15 etc…

I use this technique for more figurative work.

Linocut is another old printmaking process, using a sheet of linoleum, the design being carved into the surface with gouges, the sheet is then coated with oil based inks with a roller and put under the press and like with the etchings, limited editions can be produced.

Contemplation - Etching with Aquatint by Anne Berendt

CONTEMPLATION

My youngest son, then aged 11, was fascinated by the texture of this salt lake in Tunisia and contemplated it for a long time, hence the title!

I felt his innocence and his sense of discovery heartwarming and translated it into this etching with aquatint.

This is a Signed Limited Edition Print of 15, of which 7 have been sold.

Curvature - Linocut on Foil by Anne Berendt

CURVATURE

This linocut evolved from a life drawing.  The curvy nature of the model and the rhythm of her voluptuous forms lead to the title of this work, "Curvature".

Curvature - Linocut + mixed media by Anne Berendt

CURVATURE 2

This linocut evolved from a life drawing.  The curvy nature of the model and the rhythm of her voluptuous forms lead to the title of this work, "Curvature".

Curvature is part of a limited edition of 10 prints, of which 1 has been sold, but this particular one is unique in the sense that I have added a collage made from various types of papers, creating words by cutting out letters of different fonts and sizes, words which were inspired by the essence of the model.  The colours used are equally unique to this version of Curvature.

Le Tourbillon - Etching with aquatint by Ann Berendt

LE TOURBILLON

Le Tourbillon, i.e. The Whirlwing.

I gave these passionately entwined figures the shape of a leaf.  Their embrace is reminiscent of the dance of a leaf in the wind, a whirlwind, the whirlwind of emotions, the whirlwind of life.  A whirlwind of leaves surrounds them.

This is number 2 of a Signed Limited Edition Print of 15, of which 1 has been sold.
