Discovering the ancient fortress of Massada a few years ago was a revelation in many ways. The harsh conditions there were offset by the soft, subtle colours of the rocks and the peacefulness of the underground chambers.
I used an encaustic collage with built up textures to depict the excavations and their setting in wilderness.
