Escape from Reality

This painting has been created using encaustic wax and mixed media, with the addition of small flowers collected during my daily Covid-19 lockdown walk.

Living near the sea, I am always drawn towards a blue palette. Having created an abstract encaustic wax background, I then encased the flowers in wax and added the robin with its comforting friendly demeanour and vibrant red breast.

The result is my own little world providing the perfect escape from present-day life with a combination of sea and sky, birds and flowers, flora and fauna, in all their peace and beauty.

You can see in this work how the layers of different coloured waxes have been scraped away and added to in order to create depth and variation. The addition of the flowers provide extra texture to the painting, drawing the viewer into its 3D world.
